Bruno Ambrosio was born in Ragusa on 22/04/1974.
He graduated in History and Conservation of Architectural and Environmental Heritage at the Faculty of "Mediterranean" Studies of Reggio Calabria - Faculty of Architecture, in December 2008, with a score of 100/110, and qualified to practice as a freelance Architect_Conservator of Architectural and Environmental Heritage in March 2010.
He is registered with:
- Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers, and Conservators of the Province of Ragusa at n. 733 (2010);
- Single Regional Register of Professionals of the Region of Sicily at no. 6550.
He has the authorization for the Professional Practice of Land Surveyor (11/2007).
ITALY
Works experience
From 2009 to 2012 he carried out his professional activity as a technical collaborator at some architectural firms in Ragusa.
In the same period, from 2009 to 2012, he collaborated as an expert in the graphic and iconographic representation, on paper, of wooden works, votive aedicules, paintings, also carrying out activities of cataloging and mapping of deterioration / materials, with restoration laboratories of artistic assets.
They deserve mention the drawing collaborations for the restoration of:
- Votive shrine "Cristo alla Colonna", Ragusa (FIDAPA Ragusa Association);
- Technical report The Gobo Dura Quarry – Aksum, Ethiopia: Analysis of the Ancient Aksumite Excavation Methods, within the project organized by the Italian government entitled “The Aksum Obelisk Re-Installation Project”;
- Wooden statue of St. Nicholas (16th century). Annunziata's Church, Comiso (RG).
- Painted walls of the Baptistery – St. Jonh Baptist's Cathedral, in Ragusa.
On 2019 and 2021 he continues the graphic consultancy activity for the restoration of artistic assets through which he will be assigned, by art restoration laboratories, the graphic analyzes of:
- The entrance doors of St. Jonh Baptist's Cathedral (1747), in Ragusa (2019);
- Crucifix of Christ (15th - 18th). Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Ragusa (2021).
Teaching
On 2010 he taught geometric design in the training course “Masonry restoration worker” organized by the C.I.P.A.A.T, for the training of skilled workers in the field of stone restoration.
On 2011 he carried out tutoring activities in the fields of wood restoration, geometric design and survey of artistic heritage at the Academy of Fine Arts of Comiso, Degree Course in Conservation of Artistic and Museum Heritage.
In 2019/2020, he promotes and coordinates the stonemason/master carver course named “Ri_Editare la pietra”, as part of the “Participated Democracy” activity organized by Council of Ragusa, and where he will also teach technical drawing, survey methodologies, representation and reproduction of Baroque and neo-classical stone decorative-forms.
Training
From 2005 to 2007 he carried out an internship as a Surveyor (authorization for professional practice) in Ragusa.
On 2010 he took part in the "Symposyum" International restoration with the theme "Insects and wooden works of art and architecture" organized by the "Mediterranean" University of Reggio Calabria, Faculty of Architecture.
On 2011 he participated in the conference on the restoration and planning in historic centers “Corteggiamenti e Narrazioni” (Progetti e Cantieri 2009-2011), organized by the Order of Architects, Landscapers, Planners and Conservators of the B.B.A.A. of Catania, as a member of Sicilia Antica (voluntary cultural association operating in the research, study, knowledge, protection, enhancement and use of Sicilian cultural heritage).
On 2012 he collaborated, together with students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Comiso, in the survey, mapping and presentation of the Conference on the Restoration of Polychrome Stucco Decorations of the St. John Baptist's Church in Monterosso Almo (RG). Conference organized by the parish of St. John Baptist's Church in Monterosso Almo, with the supervision of the Restorer Sebastiano Patanè, who is also the promoter of the project proposal.
Archaeological excavations
There are at least 4 excavation campaigns in which he participates both as an intern and as a member of Sicilia Antica. Among these the most important are:
- Excavation campaign at the ancient Caulonia, in Monasterace Marina (RC), organized by the Degree Course in S.C.B.A.A., Faculty of Architecture, Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, with the supervision of the Superintendency for Archaeological Heritage of Calabria - Ministry of the Cultural Activities in 2002;
- Campagna di Scavo Agyrion 10, presso Agira, Enna (EN).
MALTA
Works experience
At the end of 2012 he moved to Malta where, from 2013 until 2021, he collaborated with wood restoration laboratories, architecture studios, expert technicians in architectural restoration and architectural and cultural heritage restoration companies. In particular, in the first phase he was called upon for technical support, survey and mapping, for the conservative restoration of three polychrome and almost entirely gilded chapels on decorative stone supports of the ST. Jonh's Co-Cathedral in Valletta: Chapels of France, Provence and Anglo-Bavarian. Furthermore, in the same phase, he also collaborated with a wooden restoration laboratory on the mapping of the entire wooden gilt apparatus of the Choir and the Lectern of the Co-Cathedral itself.
After various collaborations, always in the sector of wooden restoration, on works of historical and artistic value, will be directed towards the preparation of the Museum of St. Pawl's Cathedral in Mdina, and which will be followed by technical collaborative activities (survey and mapping) on various wooden restorations of works of historical-artistic interest and of Maltese national value.
He has provided consultancy as a technical collaborator for the new design at architectural firms and Interior Design firms, contributing to the creation and improvement of the interiors of various tourist-accommodation structures, villas, restaurants, lounge bars, etc.
Numerous survey technical consultancies and elevation photogrammetry finalized at the architectural restoration of monuments, churches and palaces of historic-artistic interest and national heritage on the island of Malta, for the Arc-Studio architecture firm, which was awarded national level for valuable conservative interventions.
In the final phase, between February 2017 and July 2021, he worked as a Junior Architect, structural designer and site supervisor at the architecture studio Med Design Ltd., based in Valletta, with whom he received awards in the field national and European level for the construction of large private structures and infrastructures of Maltese national interest.
The last Maltese experience was the collaboration as technical consultant (survey and mapping) for the restoration of the golden wooden soffit, by Mattia Preti, at the Oratory of the ST. John's Co-cathedral, room with two paintings by Caravaggio. In Valletta
Training
At the beginning of the Maltese period he carried out an internship training at the Heritage Malta (Head Offices or Architectural Planning and Restoration of Hold Architecture - Maltese Superintendence of Architectural and Cultural Heritage) of about 3 months, from January 2013 to March 2013: collaborations restoration of Palazzo Villhena, in Mdina, and Fort Sant'Angelo, in Birgu (Vittoriosa).
Actual position
In July 2021 he returned to Italy and he's collaborating with architectural studios and companies as part of the superbonus and sismabonus activities envisaged by the Italian government, for recovery and resilience.
He currently works as a freelancer.
